Currently on 33 picturesque and secluded acres, SALO Farm was originally part of a larger working farm dating back over 200 years. The property, located at the end of a town-maintained road, is tucked away on the eastern side of Washington County, New York, and the northern Hudson valley, and nestled between the southern Adirondacks and the Vermont border and its gorgeous Green Mountain range. SALO Farm is officially located in Granville, New York, though sometimes listed as in the village of Hartford or Hebron. It is also a short drive from the traditionally "Americana-esque" small towns of Salem, Ft. Edward and Cambridge, larger vacation spots of Saratoga Springs, Glens Falls and Lake George, a short distance from the Vermont towns of Manchester Center, Dorset, Weston, Rutland, Burlington and Bennington, and a reasonable drive from the major metropolitan areas of Albany (1 hour), Montreal (3 hours), Boston and New York City (both 4 hours).
The SALO Farm property was purchased in the 1970s by a Gestalt therapist who renovated the original family home (the Farm House), converted the horse stables to a residence (the Lodge), and added two new residences (the Loft and Tower) and the small studio (the Lab). The property was subsequently re-purposed for therapeutic retreats for his patients.
In the early 1990s, a collective of performing artists purchased the property and renamed it Boreas Farm. Continuing to improve the facilities, the collective converted the property to be an arts-focused retreat by again renovating the existing buildings and constructing a 1,500 sq ft rehearsal and performance building. The collective developed their own work and hosted contemporary dance workshops, retreats, and projects with dancers and dance students from all over the world.
SALO Farm now continues this legacy as a retreat and special event location, where its guests can be soothed by its solitude, energized by the natural surroundings, or inspired to host a wide variety of events at this multi-functional property.
