How do I get to SALO Farm?
- SALO Farm generally requires a 7 night minimum rental (Saturday to Saturday). Longer stays are welcomed, shorter stays may be negotiated based on availability.
Can individual houses be rented at SALO Farm?
- SALO Farm generally rents as a full property. Rentals of individual houses may be negotiated based on availability.
Are rentals dates at SALO Farm available year-round?
- Since the majority of the buildings are not fully heated, at this time the rental season at SALO Farm generally runs from late Spring to early Autumn yearly (mid-May to end September), based on the first and last frost forecasts of a given year.
Can SALO Farm accommodate special needs/is it accessible?
- Most buildings require use of stairs (guests houses) or are accessed via grass/natural landscapes (studios).
- While some houses have first floor bedrooms without need of stairs to access kitchen/bath, rentals with special needs should be clarified prior to contract to ensure accessibility.
- There are no medical facilities or medical personnel on site at SALO Farm.
Are there any other policies I should know?
- Use of open flame candles are generally prohibited, insect repelling candles (citronella, etc) may be used outdoors but must be monitored at all times.
- All SALO Farm buildings/decks/patios are tobacco-free, and the use of all vaping products are also prohibited indoors. Responsible and respectful use of both allowed outdoors on non-patio/deck areas only.
- SALO Farm rentals are subject to a zero-tolerance policy regarding the use or possession of illegal drugs or illegalactivities. SALO Farm reserves the right to terminate a rental when guests violate this policy.
- Basic household furnishings and additional household items such as kitchen utensils/equipment (plates, cups, cutlery, pots, pans, oven, refrigerator, etc.), beds, pillows, blankets are included when renting SALO Farm. Guests of SALO Farm need to provide consumable items (i.e., sheets, towels, food, drinks, toilet paper, soap, dish detergent, shampoos, etc.). Bed sizes for each room/house can be found on the Facilities/Amenities page (bringing queens sized sheet sets will enable use of any bed on property). Linen service may be negotiated/provided for an additional fee with a rental of SALO Farm.
What is phone/cell service like?
- SALO Farm is a rural area and cellular service is either spotty/unreliable or non-existent onsite, aside from guests using the AT&T network which generally has good service on property. There is a Verizon wireless booster on site which provides strengthened signal for Verizon network customers.
- Service from all carriers generally is available nearby in Granville or Hartford, about 10 miles from SALO Farm.
- There is a land line available for emergencies.
Is there internet?
- SALO Farm is in a rural location. Basic internet/WiFi can be made available in the Farm House only, access at current provider data rates to be negotiated with a rental at SALO Farm.
- Currently, there is no internet/WiFi available in other houses/studios on the property.
- If heavy internet usage is required at SALO Farm, guests should consider acquiring a hotspot (see above regarding cellular service) for use during their stay.
Is SALO Farm suitable for children or pets?
- All children (minors) under the age of 18 must have adult supervision while at SALO Farm.
- Smaller pets may be allowed (generally under 70 lbs, well house-trained), to be negotiated with a rental contract, and all pets must be consistently under supervision while at SALO Farm (strongly suggested to be on leash at all times when outside).
- All pet vaccinations, tick medications, etc., should be up to date when visiting SALO Farm.
- There are veterinarians nearby (10 miles) and 24-hour emergency services available approximately 30 miles away.
Are there medical facilities nearby?
- The closest emergency room/hospital is in Glens Falls, a 45-minute drive from SALO Farm.
- There are doctor and dentist offices in Granville and other surrounding towns, open regular business hours by appointment.
Are meals provided?
- SALO Farm does not provide meal service but local caterer contacts can be provided. Each guest house is equipped with a full kitchen for guest use, with the LODGE providing ample space for large gatherings both indoors and outdoors.
- There is a large grocery store in Granville, 10 miles from SALO Farm, and several more in Glens Falls/Queensbury, about 20 miles away. See below regarding additional amenities.
Are there amenities/shopping centers nearby?
- The nearest town to SALO Farm is Granville, about 10 miles away with laundry, library, grocery store, small hardware stores, pharmacies, gas stations, liquor stores, post office, and restaurants.
- Glens Falls and Queensbury are about 20 miles away with a larger selection of above amenities plus malls, outlets stores, big box stores, entertainment venues, etc.
- There are also a few smaller villages nearby SALO Farm with small gas station convenience stores (Stewart’s, etc.) and other small shops and restaurants.
Is there access to nature trails or hiking nearby?
- SALO Farm has a number of curated marked trails laid out on its 33-acre property (with more planned), and there are several nature/hiking trails within a short drive.
- As a reminder, it is a rural area and ticks and mosquitoes are prevalent. “Deep Woods” type bug repellent and sunscreen are strongly advised for all outdoor activities.
Is there swimming nearby?
- There is no swimming access at SALO Farm at present, but there are numerous access points within a short drive for river (Battenkill, Mettowee), lake (Lake George), and quarry (Dorset) swimming.
- As a reminder, it is a rural area and ticks and mosquitoes are prevalent. “Deep Woods” type bug repellent and sunscreen are strongly advised for all outdoor activities.
How do I get to SALO Farm?
- SALO Farm is best accessed by car. Sample travel times: from New York City or Boston (4+ hours), Montreal (3 hours), or Albany (1 .5 hours) . See the Contact page for map routing links.
- By Air: Albany International Airport is served by many major airlines with daily flights from numerous departure points and is served by major rental car companies. Guests need to arrange onward transport arrangements/pick up by car, taxi, etc., to and from SALO Farm.
- By Commercial Bus Service: Commercial bus service from New York City (or other points) to Albany, NY, or with connections to nearest commercial stop in Saratoga Springs and Glens Falls, NY. See via Greyhound or Adirondack Trailways or Megabus (Albany only) for schedules and fare information. Guests need to arrange onward transport arrangements/pick up by car, taxi, etc., to and from SALO Farm.
- By Amtrak Train Service: (Empire Service and Ethan Allen Express): Multiple departures daily from Penn Station to Albany, New York , some trains continuing to Saratoga Springs (as of Summer 2024, Ft. Edward/Glens Falls, NY service has been temporarily suspended). See AMTRAK for schedules and fare information. Guests need to arrange onward transport arrangements/pick up by car, taxi, etc., to and from SALO FARM.
- Guests arriving via air, train, or bus will need additional transportation arrangements from Albany (1.5 hours/40 miles), Saratoga Springs (1 hour/35 miles), or Glens Falls (40 mins/25 miles). LYFT and UBER services have minimal service to/within the area. Glens Falls also has several taxi options (Queensbury Taxi, Tri County Cab).
- Guests without cars will also need to make arrangements for transportation services to grocery stores, etc.
